Awards Committee:
Annually solicits and considers nominations for the “Outstanding Achievement Award” and “Lifetime Achievement Award.” Awardees are honored at the Spring Dinner Meeting. -
Colorado Physicians for Mental Health PAC:
CPMH PAC promotes the legislative goals of Colorado psychiatrists and our patients. We do this by educating candidates about mental illness and by making financial contributions to candidates who are supportive of our positions and goals. Chair Narin Wongngamnit, MD. -
Colorado Psychiatric Foundation:
In 2008, the Colorado Psychiatric Society established its separate 501(c)(3) Foundation to advance the understanding, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders through education, advocacy, and research. Distinguished Fellowship Committee:
Once a year, this committee reviews a list of members who are eligible for consideration to become APA/CPS distinguished fellows. Nominees are invited to submit applications and references to the APA Fellowship Committee. The new fellows are introduced and congratulated at the Spring Dinner Meeting. Chair Doris Gundersen, MD. -
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee:
The mission of the CPS Committee on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is to provide resources to psychiatrists and the public about the needs of diverse and underrepresented populations, and educate members on how to navigate instances of racism or discrimination in health care. Ethics:
All members of the Colorado Psychiatric Society are bound by the ethical code of the medical profession, specifically defined in the Principles of Medical Ethics of the American Medical Association and in the American Psychiatric Association’s Principles of Medical Ethics With Annotations Especially Applicable to Psychiatry. The CPS Ethics Committee responds to complaints about ethical issues concerning members and ensures that complaints are handled in accordance with the APA’s Procedures for Handling Complaints of Unethical Conduct. CPS is committed to upholding the integrity of the profession through education of members and resolution of ethical issues that are brought to the Society. Finance & Membership Committee:
This newly revived committee will be getting creative about how CPS can expand non-dues revenue, recruit new members, and increase our financial wellbeing. Legislative Committee:
This committee reviews all bills each legislative session that may impact psychiatrists and/or our patients. Members may also join short-term interest groups on topics such as forensic and correctional psychiatry, public psychiatry, integrated care and child and adolescent psychiatry. Mentor Committee:
CPS has developed a multi-tiered mentorship program led by the mentor committee to connect medical students, residents, fellows, early career psychiatrists, experienced practitioners, and retired members. We are especially interested in providing support during transitional periods in a member’s career. -
Newsletter Co-Editor:
The Co-Editor assists with editing and securing articles for the quarterly CPS Newsletter, A Piece of Our Mind. Editor Helena Winston, MD -
Nominating Committee:
The Nominating Committee consists of 3 past presidents (including the immediate Past-President) and 2 others. The members change each year. The role of the Nominating Committee is to identify a list of members to serve as Officers of the Executive Council. The Chair secures the nominees and presents the slate to the Executive Council for approval and then sends out a ballot to the entire CPS membership. The Chair is the Past-President -
Program Committee:

Public Information and Education (PIE) Committee:
Provides outreach and communication to the Colorado community, including the media, organizations, and the public at large. The committee’s efforts are directed at furthering awareness of mental illness and the accurate understanding of the role of psychiatry in its treatment, reducing stigma against people with mental illnesses, and promoting mental health. Past projects have included walks, health fair screenings, a film series, media awards to journalists, high school essay and photo contests. The Mental Health Stories project recently received the APA’s District Branch Best Practices Award. The Committee is currently working on an Instagram project. Chair Helena Winston, MD.
